“You can’t put a price on people’s lives.”

A random meeting on New Year’s Eve for Dave, a committed police officer, brings up issues about the complexities of homelessness, media exposure, and its repercussions.

The Street Engagement Hub is an innovative Greater Manchester Police (GMP) led initiative, of 14 partner agencies,  providing practical support for people involved in begging, homelessness & rough sleeping. This includes fast access to drugs treatment, mental health support, accommodation and connections to organisations to help them live a safer and better life.

Using a supportive, trauma informed approach, The Hub is reducing crime, anti-social behaviour and promoting best practise amongst services, colleagues and the public. 

People are mainly referred in from outreach conducted by GMP’s Street Engagement Team and Manchester City Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team (Support officers) working within a Community Safety Partnership.
